Spraying Painting

Paint Spraying Requires Clean Air for Air Power and Breathing

For most painting projects, a paint sprayer is more effective than a brush and roller. Sprayers are essential when customizing automotive paint.

In the painting process, the compressed air system mainly plays the role of conveying paint, atomizing paint, driving pneumatic equipment, drying moisture and dust, controlling pneumatic valves and so on. Compressed air will directly contact the paint during spraying.

If compressed air pollutants are not purified, they will mix with the paint and reduce its quality. This will result in fish eye, foaming, shrinkage, poor adhesion, and corrosion of the paint film. At the same time, because some compressed air will be used to drive pneumatic components and purge workpieces, contaminated compressed air will also pollute the spraying environment.

These undesirable appearances cannot be eliminated by polishing, except by reworking, which adds to the painting workload. And if compressed air quality problem is not fundamentally solved, such a situation will occur repeatedly. This will waste a lot of resources and costs for enterprises, and reducing profits and production efficiency.

Spraying industry has high requirements for compressed air quality, which needs to be quite clean and thorough for the removal of solid particles and oil, and the removal of water needs to reach the drying level of gas used in instruments and meters. In order to ensure the quality of the painting, the paint spraying industry standard requires that the pressure dew point of the compressed air should be lower than -40 ° C (level 2), the dust particles are less than 0.5~1 μ, and the oil content is not higher than 0.01 mg/m³.

How to Choose the Right Water Separator and Air Filter for Paint Spraying?

There are three main factors to consider as you select the best compressed air purification for your project:

Pressure: Paint spray guns do not require much pressure to operate, but you will need to consider whether you have a high volume, low pressure sprayer or one that is low volume, low pressure).

Cubic meters per minute (m³/min): This measurement refers to the volume of air produced by an air compressor. Your spray gun should list the requirements, so be sure to check before you buy a water separator and air filter.

Tank size: Paint sprayers work with a continuous stream of air, so you’ll need to select a tank that is appropriate in size. To achieve the best results, you should aim for a tank size of at least 50 gallons.
